Clark Nexsen received a Bronze Award from OFFICER Magazine as part of their 2022 Officer Station Design Awards (OSDA) program for the Loudoun County Public Safety Firing Range. The program recognizes projects with outstanding architecture and design from law enforcement and public safety facilities nationwide.
Located in Leesburg, Virginia, the Loudoun County Public Safety Firing Range provides the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office with a state-of-the-art facility that improves training conditions, opportunities, and cutting-edge technology. Featuring two fully tactical indoor walkdown ranges – a 10-point, 100-yard range and an 18-point, 50-yard range equipped with sidewall bullet traps to support 180-degree target engagement – the facility can accommodate 24-hour operation, providing Loudoun County the flexibility to have expanded training hours for its force.
Noise control was a crucial factor in the project. Due to the range’s rural residential location and the county’s day and night-time noise restrictions, the facility was constructed primarily of concrete, naturally reducing noise. In addition, lining the facility with acoustic material, building double walls in certain areas, and enclosing mechanical rooms to reduce equipment noise helped accomplish the project’s noise control objectives.
